Mike Golic Gives Pardon My Take an Update to His Relationship Status With Mike Greenberg

To send you into the weekend, Pardon My Take welcomed on Mike Golic Sr. to discuss his Hall-of-Fame radio career, college football, and, the unfortunate ending of "Mike & Mike in the Morning." Golic gave us some behind the scenes details on how everything went down, and a relationship update with Greenberg, aka "Greeny."

Mr. Cat: How is your relationship with Greeny these days? Because obviously where was a lot of stuff written when Mike and Mike ended, and, you know, people say, "Oh, they weren't talking." I never know what's true and what's fiction, but where do you guys stand now?

Mike Golic: Well, it did not end well. That's pretty much been public. I was surprised it ended for the guy who was running ESPN at the time who ended it, John Skipper, and Greeny wanted to go do his own thing. So, I was surprised it ended and obviously it's been pretty documented, I didn't like the way it ended. We've seen each other since, but, you know, he does the morning show, "Get Up" and I was doing the morning show [Golic and Wingo], so we would have no interaction in the morning. We always lived far away from one another, and outside of Mike and Mike, we never really hung out. His kids weren't even born when we started the show, so we never really had a lot in common. And I think that's one of the things that I think helped Mike and Mike work, a little bit.

Mike Golic: We were so different. So, quite honestly, the way it ended, when we see each other, we've seen each other at Super Bowl's, we're cordial, but that's pretty much it. In all honesty, there really isn't much of a relationship anymore. It's a shame, but that's just the way it goes sometimes, and that's just where it is now. Who knows what the future holds, but right now, that's pretty much where it is.

It really does stink to hear how much the relationship between Greeny and Golic became what it is now. I'll never forget using up 30% of my phone battery on the morning bus ride to middle school just to catch 15 minutes of "Mike & Mike." Would it screw me if I wanted to play some Cube Runner in 5th period Geography later in the day? Absolutely. But was it worth it to listen to this great show? You bet.

You have to respect the honesty that Mike Golic brought to today's PMT. You could tell he was definitely bummed out with the way everything ended, but he has approached it all maturely and we will be rooting for him with whatever comes next.
