BREAKING: No Fans Allowed At This Year's Indy 500

Welp. There goes all the memes talking about how "it can't get any worse in August" in 2020 - at least around Indianapolis.

This just blows. Obviously the race was going to be different this year no matter what with it being in August, the local TV blackout being lifted, and all the health precautions that were going to have to take place if there were going to be fans.

But now...now it just feels incredibly sad.

They ran the Indy Grand Prix back in July without fans, and while it was weird, it was still good to have the race. But still, that's just the GP. We're talking about the Indianapolis 500. That's like NFL preseason week 3 compared to the Super Bowl.

Half of the glory of the race is the pageantry and flair that goes along with over 300,000 people being out at the same place celebrating the Greatest Spectacle In Racing together.

It's what had to be done. Unfortunately. But even trying to get a quarter of the people (close to 75k) in there as compared to the usual amount would have been a gigantic pain in the ass and honestly would spell automatic outbreaks of COVID. You just know that the hardcore race goers wouldn't have completely abided by the necessary regulations to try to stop the spread.

Fuck.

Just another big bummer smacking us across the head again to start what we thought would be a fresh month.
