Happy Birthday to James Hetfield, legendary frontman/guitarist of Metallica, who turns 57 today!

I've already done a Metallica 'Recommended:' on the Seattle show from '89, considered by many to be the band at their peak....

….but this Moscow performance is just beyond comprehension. It looks like the biggest crowd ever played to in human history, and it's certainly up there! 1.6 million Russians gathered for the first ever open-air rock concert in Moscow - featuring AC/DC, Metallica, The Black Crowes, Pantera, and E.S.T. - just days after August Putsch (a Communist attempt to take control of the country) failed. Calling this performance chill-inducing would be downplaying it.
