Your FIRST PLACE Orioles Leave Boston With A Huge Series Win

Oh, you thought this was going to be the same old Orioles, eh? You saw them get steamrolled Friday night and had already written them off. Maybe you even said the season was over. Man were you wrong. Boston used up all their runs in game 1 and just couldn't get anything going the next 2 games. Behind a really good start from Alex Cobb, the Orioles pulled away Saturday by a score of 7-2.

Sunday was more of the same. Wade LeBlanc made his Orioles debut and went 5.2 IP, didn't walk anyone, had 4 Ks, gave up 4, but left with a lead. The bullpen came in and was lights out. Castro allowed 2 runs that were credited to LeBlanc, but it was goose eggs from there. The big key of the wins from the weekend was 0 walks. Orioles didn't walk anyone on Saturday and Sunday, crazy what happens when you don't give other teams free baserunners. Sunday got shaky for the Birds but again, pitching came through and some timely insurance runs, they were able to pull it out 7-4.

The Birds were able to hold Boston's offense minus Friday's explosion, 6 runs in 18 innings in that ballpark with it being smoking hot is damn good. Boston got their hits, but Baltimore was able to get out of their jams. Timely groundball double plays, strikeouts in big moments, the Orioles were on the right side of the plays this weekend. Jose Iglesias, the Orioles free agent signee was AWESOME this whole weekend. 6 hits between Saturday and Sunday, plus sure handed defense (minus his bobble error), he was the straw that stirred the drink. Came up with big knocks when the Birds needed it. Rio Ruiz is now in the running for best hair in baseball and also mashes. Another home run today and a handful of great plays in the field. He'll be a fun guy to keep an eye on. Anthony Santander was another guy who was key in the series win. Hit a homer on Sunday, and made a hell of a catch to take away a homer from Boston.

All I know is they got shit on all offseason for being a garbage team, showed up, did their job, and left Boston with a series win on Opening Weekend. That's huge for a young, rebuilding ball club who is missing it's top 2 players. Now it's onto Miami where the FIRST PLACE Orioles take on the FIRST PLACE Marlins. What a weird sentence. At least you had fun on Opening Day, Boston.
