Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert "The Reaper" Whittaker and Darren "The Gorilla" Till just capped off the UFC's first run of Fight Island events with one hell of a scrap in our main event tonight.
As you could see from the tweets above, scorecards were a little all over the place, due to almost every round being a razor thin battle of technicality. In the first, Till dropped Whittaker - and in the second, Whittaker dropped Till....
....and then for the final three rounds, I think both fighters were a little more defensive and respectful of the other's power, but it never made for a bad or boring fight at all. Just looked like a high stakes chess match.
Above all else for me, tho, this fight showed the growth of Darren Till as a fighter, and that he definitely belongs at middleweight. I really thought Bobby Knuckles was gonna be way too much for him in there tonight, but that wasn't the case at all. If the judges would've given this fight to Till in the end, I wouldn't have complained at all - it was THAT close - so I don't think this is gonna be a huge setback for him.
Excited to see both of these guys get back in there soon - sign me up for Whittaker vs the winner of Adesanya/Costa!
Now the UFC packs up shop and heads back to Vegas for next week's return to the UFC Apex!
They'll return to Fight Island soon, but for now, we say goodbye…..
