Deiveson Figueiredo Defeats Joseph Benavidez In The Rematch, Becomes New UFC Flyweight Champion

Damn. That was a really tough one to watch.

Deiveson Figueiredo just defeated Joseph Benavidez in the very first round of their main event on Fight Island via rear-naked choke (which was applied after he dropped Benavidez multiple times), and he's now the new UFC Flyweight Champion. This was a rematch of their February main event, which Figueiredo missed weight for, and therefore wasn't championship eligible for when he won.

I've mentioned my relationship with Joe and his wife Megan Olivi a bunch here, because to be honest, they're some of the best friends I've ever made, and nobody in the space has been even half as supportive of me and my stuff at Barstool as them, so I'm just absolutely gutted for them right now. This is just as heartbreaking now as it was in February. I'm tellin ya - NOTHING is as relentless as the fight game.

Benavidez is so strong mentally, though, and has such a phenomenal support system around him (just look at ALL of MMA Twitter right now) that I'm sure he's gonna bounce back from this no matter what's next for him. 

Dude is an absolute legend and that's exactly how he'll be remembered in the sport, regardless of what happened tonight.
