Oklahoma Picked Up Another 5-Star QB This Weekend

The rich get richer. Caleb Williams, who currently sits as the #4 player in the class of 2021 and the #1 QB, is going to OU. This was kind of expected when he brought his list down to Maryland and LSU, but this is yet another big commitment for Lincoln Riley. It also confirms that if you're a top high school QB, Oklahoma is going to be at the top of your list.

Back in December, 5-star 2021 QB Brock Vandagriff de-committed from OU and spurred speculation that Riley was going to the Cowboys. That didn't happen and what did Riley do? Went out and got a better QB according to recruiting rankings.

Let's review Oklahoma's QB position from the past and predict the future.

2015: Baker Mayfield

2016: Baker Mayfield

2017: Baker Mayfield (Heisman)

2018: Kyler Murray (Heisman)

2019: Jalen Hurts (Heisman-Runner Up)

2020: Spencer Rattler (5-star QB, rising Sophomore)

2021: Spencer Rattler/Caleb Williams

2022: Rattler/Williams

2023: Williams

Yes, Oklahoma has defensive issues that prevent them from competing against the top of the top, but their offense is going to continue to be elite if Rattler and Williams pan out like they should. That is thanks to recruiting and the program Riley has continued to build at OU after Bob Stoops left. You can do the whole "well, ahkshully Oklahoma can't win in the playoffs" thing like a mouth-breather or you can look at Oklahoma as a team that continues to be at the top of college football and if they can put together a defense, they'll be a major problem.
