Carmelo Anthony Hints That He Regrets Re-Signing With The Knicks

GREENBURGH, N.Y. Carmelo Anthony believes there are better days coming for the New York Knicks, but he briefly second-guessed his decision to re-sign with New York because of the team’s struggles this season. “I try to keep myself from thinking like that. But as a human being, those thoughts definitely come into play. You sit down at night and you’re thinking, ‘Did I really make the right decision?’ and just things like that,” Anthony said Thursday at the team’s training facility. “Not often did I think about that. There was one point in time this season where it was just cloudy and I didn’t really have any clarity; I was second-guessing what I did and the decision I made. But after that, I was smooth sailing.” The Knicks are projected to have at least $25 million in cap space and will have a top-5 pick in the NBA draft. Anthony is optimistic that team president Phil Jackson can turn things around, but he acknowledged that this summer is Jackson’s time to “step up to the plate.” “That was one of the reasons I decided to come back. For me to have faith in [Jackson] and believe in his capabilities,” Anthony said. “[This is] kind of like a clean slate for us and for him. Now we really get a chance and he really gets a chance to put a stamp on what we want this organization to be about, what he wants this team to be about, what players he wants in here.” Anthony later added: “This next season for me and for the organization and for Phil, this is where we earn our money.”

Hey Melo, guess what? We regret it to. I’m sure Phil Jackson has the same thoughts every single night. The fans most certainly do. Only different with the intelligent fans is there’s no doubt about it. Its not cloudy. Its perfectly clear. Signing Carmelo Anthony to a max contract was a horrible decision and there’s no way around it. Even when he was healthy this year, the Knicks were the worst team in basketball. How on earth can you sign a player to a 130 million dollar deal and the very next season be the worst team in basketball, start selling off all your other parts, and not consider that a colossal mistake? I think the saddest part about this season for Carmelo is there was really no difference between the Knicks with Carmelo and without him. They were just as shitty with him as they were without him. He went down for the season and nothing changed. Thats how little of an impact he had – this team would have been in the running for the #1 pick whether he played this whole season or not.

And so now you have a very expensive, very 1 dimensional player, coming off an injury, on the wrong side of 30 just in time for your rebuilding process! When you’ve sold off your assets and landed a top pick and decided to rebuild, Carmelo Anthony is quite literally the last superstar in NBA history you want on the payroll. I mean that sincerely. Theres not another player that could be worse. Polar opposite of what you want in terms of style of play, cost, and age when you’re pressing the reset button. So Carmelo – most fans echo your sentiments brotha. As a human being, I 100% regret the Knicks signing you.

Also one last thought – why does the “clock start” on Carmelo and Phil Jackson next year? Why is that the rhetoric they are spinning to the fans and the public? For some reason we can’t judge Phil Jackson’s tenure starting with his debacle of a choice to sign Carmelo. Why is that? Because it didnt work out? That decision sucked so we’ll just say that doesnt count and start judging you based on next year! If he botches the pick and doesnt land a free agent do we start his evaluation in 2017? No of course not. So he doesnt get a free pass on this season. He made the choice to ride with Carmelo and its totally backfired. Thats one enormous, enormous strike against him. Not saying he cant get the job done over the course of time, just saying the clock started on Phil Jackson when he inked Melo to that extension.
