Answering The Question Alec Baldwin Is Dying To Know... What Did We Do With That Goliath Grouper?

The 500 lb. Goliath Grouper we caught in Episode 1 has made a few waves over the past couple days.  Tens of millions of them to be exact, but it hasn't come without controversy!  There are naturally a lot of questions whenever a lot of people see something they might not have seen before, and we can get to those later, but the most important one that a lot of people on social media seem to be urgently asking is... did you let it go?  One such interested citizen was some guy named Alec Baldwin...

Alec!! Who do you think I am?!  Goliath Grouper are a heavily protected species and it is really really illegal to kill one, let alone to do it on camera!  I would have assumed Alec had already watched Episode 1 of Season 2 just a few minutes after it launched, but maybe he is a little busy.  Anyways, every single Goliath Grouper I have ever caught has been released. 

They were fished to the brink of extinction before being protected by the government, where they have THRIVED and bounced all the way back!  Fishery exploitation and the science behind regulations placed on humans interaction with wildlife is extremely complicated, but in this case I DEFINITELY support the Goliath Grouper's continued protection. Some people say there are "too many" of them now and that they are overwhelming areas they used to be scarce in.  That seems like a good problem to have, as they can be harnessed for tourism due to the fact they are one of the coolest fish in the entire ocean.  If there are more people interested in them and there are TONS of Groupers, it seems like everybody wins.  I'd rather have too many than not enough, but that may be a broad take on a nuanced conversation for another day.
