An SEC assistant told me this when I asked about Stoops petering out on FSU, a job most of us would assume to be on par with Oklahoma, the program that made his brother Bob famous — and a national champion.
Now, Stoops’ contract is very nice (his base salary increases annually; currently he’s due $4.6 million in 2020) but the assistant was specifically referring to this: Every time Kentucky wins seven games in the regular season, Stoops’ contract is automatically extended by one year.
Well, well, well, what do we have here? An SEC football coach admitting that Mark Stoops has the best fucking deal in the country? That's something I can get behind. I'm happy to admit that I was 100% wrong with Stoops. A few years ago I thought he was a great recruiter but made too many bonehead decisions on the field and missed some obvious shit. He's adapted and gotten better year after year.
Now we're seeing Kentucky - as much as you don't want to admit it - be an actual name in college football. The last two years being 10 wins and following that up with 8 while having a WR play QB. Pretty, pretty important. Not to mention the recruiting keeps getting better and better. The man turned down a Florida State job to stay at Kentucky. Think about that. That's a statement that pretty much nobody would have ever believed like 5 years ago. Shit, I saw this being discussed yesterday:

Are they going to compete for national titles? Absolutely not. College football only has like 6 title contenders. But can they win the SEC East? Absolutely. Hell, they were a home win away vs Georgia two years ago from getting there. Just consistently win 7-10 games a year. Avoid the shitty loss, pull off an upset or two and win the other games. That's how you succeed at Kentucky for football.
All I know is Mark Stoops has the best fucking deal in the country. I'm not an SEC football coach, so take their word for it. Can't wait for football season. Can't. Fucking. Wait.
