Taking You Into The Weekend With The Mavs Improbable Title Run

On June 12, 2011 the Dallas Mavericks shocked the basketball world in what was one of the biggest upsets in Finals history. Don't let all this time that has gone by distract you from the fact that the Heat were -180 favorites to win that series with the Mavs being +160. When the season started the Mavs came in at 20/1 to win the whole damn thing. They went on to win 57 games that year and made light work of the Western Conference playoffs to the tune of a 12-3 record (8-1 after the first round). This was the first playoffs after LeBron declared they would win 7 titles or some shit and was the first time he was really a true villain. Him and Wade clowned Dirk for being sick which immediately backfired, and the Mavs as we know pulled it out on MIA's home floor in 6 games.

That title was a legacy defining achievement for Dirk and was some nice revenge for what happened in 2006, but that Mavs title is cool because it was also the first ring for Shawn Marion, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Peja etc. Some HOF or at the very least Hall Of Very Good players who were just missing that one final achievement. Sure it was fun seeing LeBron and the new look Heat come up short, but it was also cool to see some legends of the league finally hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy.

Now full transparency I was going to make this blog the 24 point Celtics comeback in the 2008 Finals against the Lakers that also happened on this day, so credit to me once fucking again for branching out and giving some other fanbases their moment in the sun. Plus I came across that photo of DeShawn Stevenson and I couldn't not blog it. What a fantastic tshirt. And yes, I know insecure Heat fans, the Heat won the next two titles. Congratufuckinglations. This is about Dirk & Co and what an amazing run that was to their first ever title. Don't be so insecure.

Have a great weekend!
