Do We Even Care If The Simpsons Kills Off A Main Character?

Hollywood Reporter - Simpsons showrunner Al Jean was coy about the long talked-about character death taking place during the Sept. 28 premiere. Then he was a little more transparent. “It turned out bigger than we thought it was going to be,” he said. “It’s not going to be this blood bath where they all get murdered.” When pushed about who it might be, he repeated that the voice actor has won an Emmy for the role and that his clues have been “obvious.” “It’s called ‘A Clown in the Dumps,'” Jean said to gasps. Does this mean Krusty the Clown is on his way out? Voice actor Dan Castellaneta, who is more famously behind Homer, has won an Emmy for the show.

I don’t know anyone who still watches the Simpsons. Not a soul. You never see a Tweet about it when a new episode is on, never hear a peep, never even give it a drunk text for old times sake. The Simpsons has been reduced to old funny clips on Youtube and nostalgic memories of watching it on your old 13 inch TV/VCR combo before starting your homework in 7th grade. It’s just a shadow of what used to be. And it sucks. It’s like watching a QB play out his remaining years in Arizona throwing 25 picks a season. You go oh man, I remember when he used to be good, and then turn on something worth watching.

So now they are trying to drum up some hype by saying they are killing off Krusty the Clown. Do we care? Does anyone care? Did they think there would be outrage and riots in the street and we’d have to call in the National Guard? Save the women and children! For sure not. They shouldn’t be killing a main character just so they get one night of chatter. They should go out like a true professional by strapping on that Wizards jersey and whimpering on out to pasture. The Simpsons are Jordan getting stuffed by the rim. Time to just hang them up and swim around in the billions…and billions of dollars the show has made. No need to be a hero.
