There it is. The moment Villanova fans were waiting for. I thought maybe we had a slim chance of getting him to return because of all the craziness that's going on with this years draft, but ultimately it's the right decision for Bey. I believe he's definitely going to be a top 15 pick. In today's NBA, teams are going to salivate over him. He shoots the lights out, plays great defense, and can guard multiple positions, basically the only things that anyone cares about in their wing players these days.
It definitely sucks that he's not coming back on campus. He would have been a lock to be an All-American and would have made a really strong case for NPOY next year. If he returned to school, I think this 2020-2021 team would've had just as much talent as the 2018 National Championship team. However, I believe he's replaceable. The Cats are going to have so much talent next year it's insane. We are going to have a completely healthy year from Bryan Antoine, who no doubt struggled last year, but should defintiely be able to turn it around. As a true freshman, he was thrown into the fire of a program that does not allow for rookie mistakes. He was obviously thin and needed to gain a lot of muscle to compete in the Big East, but that's what Villanova does best. The strength and conditioning program at Nova completely changed the bodies of so many recent Nova greats like Mikal Bridges, Kris Jenkins, Jayvaughn Pinkston, and Eric Paschall. I don't think they'll have any problem with putting some muscle on Antoine, and let's not forget what he can do.
Aside from Antoine, we obviously return floor general Colin Gillespie who has already turned into the next great Nova point guard.
We still have Jermaine Samuels, the prototypical Jay Wright player. He makes big shots, does all the little things, and is relentless on D.
We have Justin Moore, a walking bucket that will only see improvement in year two.
Then there is the reigning Big East Freshman of Year, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, another 5 star recruit that will also benefit from a full Villanova off-season.
Plus the addition of Tulane transfer, Caleb Daniels, who will be a perfect fit in the Nova system.
All in all, even with the loss of Bey, Nova is going to be a pre-season top 5 team next year and very well could continue their streak of winning every other National Championship. We will miss you Saddiq, but I am still so fucking excited for Villanova basketball next year.
