REPORT: Chelsea Swoop In To Activate RB Leipzig's ₤53M ($66M) Release Clause On Top Striker Timo Werner. GET IN.

Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea, who are on the verge of tying up a deal to sign the forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, Chelsea have moved to sign Werner after Liverpool did not meet his release clause which is reported to be worth around £53 million.

Werner has now agreed to join Chelsea on a contract worth almost £200,000-a-week and the club are now expected to agree a deal with Leipzig.

The signing will be a significant coup for Chelsea and head coach, Frank Lampard, as Werner had been tracked by Premier League leaders Liverpool and their manager Jürgen Klopp.

FUCKING GET IN.

As someone who has been singing Timo Werner's name from the rooftops ever since I brought him to Watford in my FIFA 18 manager career mode AND a Chelsea fan, I could not be more ecstatic about this signing. It's massive for the club. It shows that not only are they willing to spend for Frank Lampard but that they're actively trying to improve the squad in order to win. I was really scared that we were gonna slip into that Arsenal complacency mode where we just try and get fourth every year.

Here I was, sitting here like a sucker thinking that Timo Werner was already in a Liverpool shirt. Little would I know, Roman Abromovich was out here cutting backdoor deals to steal Werner from Anfield and hand-deliver him to the Bridge. As soon as Chelsea made a move to pay the release clause, Liverpool just kind of backed away. It was a little weird but I'm not here complaining. It's not like they're in desperate need of a striker, they did just dominate the EPL and will finally get their trophy when it returns.

Bringing in Timo Werner does create a bit of a mishap in terms of team sheets. It could either work to Chels's advantage or it could blow up in our face like bringing in Torres back during the 2011/12 campaign. If all goes well it'll turn into a healthy competition between Tammy Abraham and Timo for the starting spot, maybe one of them moves out wide in a 4-3-3 formation. Hell, they could get real jiggy with it and run the occasional 4-4-2.

Nothing is finalized as of yet (personal terms yet to be agreed to), but it should be all wrapped up by next week. I can't really see a world where Werner turns down a £200,000-a-week wage but crazier things have happened.

I'm just pumped anytime Chelsea can bring in world-class talent. God forbid Roman keeps that checkbook out all summer to make up for lost time in the transfer window last summer. All I know is that the Chels are rapidly climbing towards being able to compete for a title again and I AM LOVING LIFE.

KTBFFH and welcome to Stamford Bridge.
