May I Present The Most Correct Take Ever Posted On The Internet

Hey u/IBlameMcNabb, I have to say you might be onto something here. In fact, I'm not even agreeing with this take because of my extreme bias or homerism. I say this as someone with two working ears and a brain. Hate the Celtics all you want, scream about how overrated that 2008 team was until your eyes bleed, there is no denying their intro video/player intro song is one of the best to ever grace the NBA. Notice I didn't say the greatest. Credit to me for once again being objective. You will never be able to convince me that their intro played no fewer than 67% of why they ultimately won the title that year. I cannot stress how important a good intro video is for a team looking to make a title run. For reasons I've never heard they moved away from that song after that season and guess how many titles we've seen them win? Zero. As in not a single goddamn one. It's why in each season preview blog I write I bring this point up. I don't mean to shit on anyone's work whose job it is to come up with these, but wake up. Give us the 2007-08 intro back because it should have never left in the first place.

Now, because I watched the intro video about 500 times since I sent that tweet, I figured let's turn this into a blog and give my list of the top 5 intros we've ever seen. This is my own personal list, but it's also pretty much how anyone should rank a top 5.

5. Orlando Magic 1995

I mean that is so 90s it hurts, but it also slaps. Impossible to be of my generation and not have bumped "Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited. Maybe you were first introduced to this song in Space Jam in 1996. For me? It was Jock Jams Volume 1. Remember Jock Jams? What a classic. You combine that intro with those fire 90s Magic uniforms and no wonder they made the Finals.

4. Detroit Pistons 1990

Hate the Bad Boy Pistons all you want, but that's a fire intro. The Final Countdown by Europe simply works. It was also pretty fitting since the 1989-90 season sort of was the final countdown for that Pistons team until their 2004 title.

3. Miami Heat 2013

Again, credit to me for being unbiased here because this intro/team still haunts me to this day. But come on, Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes combined with the crowd reaction just works. This team robbed me of a title and I still can't sit here and tell you that intro isn't fucking fire.

2. Boston Celtics 2007-08

That's right, I'm declaring the Celts 2007-08 intro video/intro song combination the second best ever. You combine the music from Requiem for a Dream for the visuals and then transition into Ayo Technology, well it doesn't get much better than that. I'm talking my goosebumps have goosebumps. The stare from KG at the end? Incredible.

1. Chicago Bulls

No need to overthink things. This is the best and will always be the best. Not even a Bulls fan and it gives me chills. Remember when the Jazz tried to copy it? What morons. You may disagree with 2-5, but I have a feeling we are all in agreement here.

Man did that make me want sports back immediately. Never underestimate the power of a good intro song and the success it can have for your favorite team. I think we've seen throughout NBA history it's pretty damn important.

P.S.

Remember this shit from the 2014-15 season? Might be the worst thing I've ever witnessed. Woof city. Who allowed that? No wonder that team started off like dogshit and needed Isaiah Thomas to come in and save them.
