Ravens Sign Matt Schaub To A 1-Year Deal To Hold A Clipboard All Season
Take it easy Ozzie! Leave some good looking QB’s for the rest of the league!
Welcome to Charm City Matt! Kick your feet up! Relax a little!
Let’s not beat around the bush. Matt Schaub’s role here is resident clipboard bitch. Joe plays all 19 games and Matt watches him dominate. Simple as that. But let’s just say the unthinkable happens to Baltimore’s most durable athlete. No, I’m not talking about anyone’s mother getting kidnapped. I’m talking about Joe Flacco finally getting hit by the bullet he’s been dodging his whole career and has to sit out for an extended period of time.
Does Matt Schaub have what it takes to carry the Ravens to a Super Bowl should Flacco go down for the year? Nah. Highly doubtful. He’d still be the starter in Houston if that was the case. But I will say this. I’m confident enough in Schaub, coupled with a good defense and a great run game, to keep the Ravens afloat should something happen to Joe. Schaub has experience, and he’s had moderate success in the NFL in a similar offensive system. His poor 2013 campaign (along with the Raiders benching him last year in the best interests of Derek Carr) is the only black eye on his resume. You’d be hard-pressed to find any backup QB that doesn’t have a few black eyes. So if Joe were to sprain a knee ligament or have a concussion and miss a month in the middle of the season, I really wouldn’t fret too much. Or at least not as much as I would if Tyrod Taylor were still the backup. So in that sense, the Ravens became a better football team by buying a solid insurance plan.
