Well alright then.  Not really a surprise.  Iowa’s starting QB for the last two years is leaving town.  He was listed as the back up behind CJ Beathard on a depth chart that Kirk Ferentz put out in January so this was almost a foregone conclusion.  I’m guessing it’s also because Kirk Ferentz doesn’t have any idea what he’s doing.  Ferentz has to be elated about this although he’d never say that to the media.  Iowa would’ve headed into spring with a QB controversy on their hands and, if there’s one thing Ferentz doesn’t know how to handle, it’s QB controversies.  Last year was a prime example.  Everybody wanted CJ Beathard to start because it would’ve brought a much-needed spark to the offense (AKA he was willing to actually throw the ball downfield) but Ferentz doesn’t like change so he stuck with Rudock……kind of.  Beathard would get appearances now and then.  Rudock and Beathard didn’t know who would start from week to week.  Even leading up to the bowl game we didn’t know who was gonna start.  How does that happen?  How are you still deciding who your QB is gonna be in January?  Rudock started and then Beathard was listed as the starting QB on the post-season depth chart.  Figure that one out.

Anyway, thanks for the memories, Jake!  Best of luck wherever you end up.

Welcome to the CJ Beathard Era, everybody!
