Tommy Boy And First Blood Actor Brian Dennehy Has Passed Away

Sad news today from Hollywood...

Brian Dennehy, the winner of two Tonys in a career that also spanned films including “Tommy Boy,” “First Blood” and “Cocoon,” and television, died on Wednesday night in New Haven, Conn. He was 81.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our father, Brian passed away last night from natural causes, not Covid-related. Larger than life, generous to a fault, a proud and devoted father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife Jennifer, family and many friends,” his daughter Elizabeth Dennehy tweeted on Thursday.

His agency ICM also confirmed the news, which TMZ was first to report. (via Variety)

He has had so many, dozens upon dozens, of roles over the years, but our generation knows him most for one role: Big Tom Callahan in 'Tommy Boy'...

What an iconic businessman line, "I can get a hell of a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it."

Obviously this scene is a little morbid now, but what moment in this movie for Dennehy (Rest in Peace) and Chris Farley (Rest in Peace)…

He was also a key player in one of the great action movies ever made, 'First Blood'…

From the stage, to TV, to film, Dennehy always had a big presence in whatever he appeared in entertainment-wise. It's always sad seeing someone pass, but if there is one positive, it is a reminder at his talent and gives us a good reason to go back and watch some of his old work.

Rest in peace, Brian Dennehy…
