RIP Ed Sabol

NEW YORKEd Sabol, the NFL Films founder who revolutionized sports broadcasting and transformed pro football from an up-and-coming league to must-watch theater, has died. He was 98. Sabol died Monday at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, the NFL said.Sabol was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. During his tenure at NFL Films from 1964-1995, the organization won 52 Emmy Awards.

I wrote this same exact blog when Steve Sabol passed. Now I got to write it for his dad Ed Sabol. I think you could argue the Sabols were just as important to the success of the NFL if not more so than any other people in the history of the sport. Just revolutionized the way people thought of the game and watched it. Growing up my favorite part of the Superbowl every year was watching the endless reruns of the past Superbowls always beginning with the Steve Sabol intro before turning it over to John Facenda. Just got me addicted to loving the NFL. The forerunner to all the sound effect shows we see today. And longtime Stoolies know that I’ll still drop at least 2 or 3 NFL films quotes per week. “More grit than glitter, more spit than polish etc. The guy was the absolute best at what he did. RIP Steve Sabol. May the autumn wind be with you…..
