Jail records show 24-year-old Evan Rodriguez was arrested early Thursday. He was being held in the Miami-Dade County Jail on $1,500 bail after being booked at 5:32 a.m.
Rodriguez went to Temple University, where he was a tight end. He played in 12 games for the Bears in 2012, starting in five of them.
An attorney wasn’t listed on jail records.
Rodriguez was a in a car that got into accident, so the officer asked him for identification for a traffic report, while assisting with the accident investigation at the intersection of 6th Street and Alton Road in Mami Beach.
The arrest report said Rodriguez responded by asking what the officer needed it for since he was an NFL player, saying that he didn’t need all the media “stuff.”
Rodriguez gave his ID but appeared upset. The officer told Rodriguez and another man, who was the driver of a vehicle involved in the accident, to stay at the scene, but several minutes later Rodriguez walked away, leaving his ID and the driver behind.
He returned, but then walked into the road, towards an officer who busy conducting roadside exercise on the driver. Another officer got between them and told Rodriguez to go back to the sidewalk. Rodriguez stopped but then continued to walk towards the officer. He was told again to go back, but instead stood in the middle of the road, the report said. He said he would go back but stayed in the road, the report said.
He was told again to go the sidewalk, but, raising his voice, he said he was hard-headed and didn’t have to listen.
He was told again that he was interfering with an investigation and needed to go to the sidewalk.
“I don’t need this. I’m an NFL player,” Rodriguez was quoted as saying in the report.
Rodriguez complied after he was told that he was just a passenger and that all the authorities needed was his ID and then he could go.
He then started screaming at the driver and then the officers, the report said. Eventually, a crowd started to gather.
Authorities noticed he had slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
While in the holding cell, Rodriguez spontaneously said, “I’m sorry, but I was upset ’cause of the accident,” the report said.
Sort of an inconsequential story here. Pulling the old “Do you know who I am” move is one of the all time douchiest things a person can do. Especially when you’re a 2nd year Tight End/Fullback that basically no one actually knows. But what can you do, he didn’t want the “media stuff”. I get that. The more important story though is Evan Rodriguez’s nose. That is quite the prominent nose if I’ve ever seen one, and I have, because I work for David Portnoy.
