Could Tom Brady Really Be Signing With The Bucs?!

Is this really happening?! In my 23 years as a Buccaneers fans I've enjoyed some high highs. Winning Super Bowl XXXVII over the Raiders 48-21 was the peak. The NFC Championship game the week before when my favorite player ever, Ronde Barber took a Donovan McNabb pass back 90 yards to close Veteran's Stadium forever and seal the win was right up there too. But reality is, it's been a tough go the past 17 years. We've had a couple ok years, but we haven't been to the playoffs since I was in college. I'm 34 years old now.

In that time, the NFL has changed drastically. Pass interference and holding rules coupled with stricter enforcement of helmet-to-helmet hits have made it much more skewed to the offensive side of the ball. A not-so fun fact is that the Buccaneers in their entire history, which began in 1976 have never, EVER signed a Quarterback to a second contract.

We've had guys like: Steve Spurrier, Doug Williams, Steve Young, Vinny Testaverde, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Chris Simms, Jeff Garcia, Josh Freeman, and now Jameis Winston. And none of them, not a one has ever signed their name in cursive on two separate documents spanning different years.

Now I was a Jameis guy, have been since before Day 1. I couldn't have been more excited to draft him. I wanted him over Marcus Mariota. I even paid homage to the timeless classic "Draft Day" on instagram that day with a post so witty I accrued double digit likes:

In the last five seasons, Jameis Winston has provided plenty of incredible moments. But he's also provided about as many moments that make me look so far down at the ground I can almost see the liquid hot magma at the Earth's center. We still could re-sign him and if we do I'll cheer like heck for the guy just like I do every player in a Buccaneers jersey.

But when rumors started circulating that the Bucs were a dark horse in the Tom Brady sweepstakes I was intrigued to say the least. I mean, the Greatest Quarterback of the Super Bowl Era (G.O.T.S.B.E. - shoutout Jameis1of1), Tom Brady being available?! This was too good to be true!

So I decided to take a look at exactly why he was available. I dove into his 2019 tape:

I mean, yeah, he's still awesome, but could he actually be on MY TEAM?!

Going into the weekend, I was worried about the Pats, Chargers, Titans, 49ers, & Raiders in that order. Then Dianna Russini hits us with this today:

Ok Titans out. Sweet, they were definitely a worry after people caught Julian Edelman & Brady FaceTiming with Titans HC & their former teammate Mike Vrabel from the Syracuse game those guys attended with their good friend Hubbs.

Then my favorite Bucs Quarterback ever Chris Simms (who is best friends with 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan) delivers this news:

So not only are the 49ers out, but the Chargers are out too?! They were my other worry as Brady's new movie production company, 199 Productions had me thinking he could go play amongst the stars like LeBron in Hollywood. But now we're down to just TWO teams and one of them is MY BUCS?!

Legal tampering opens up at 12pm EST tomorrow and I will be ALL OVER the NFL Wire this week. It's the Bucs vs. the Patriots according to Simms. The G.O.T.S.B.E. will choose in the next few days. Stay tuned...
