NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — One day after locking up their best young defenseman for years, the Islanders were reportedly working toward signing their best veteran defenseman long-term. According to Canada’s Sportsnet, the Islanders are believed to have made at least one offer to impending unrestricted free agent Johnny Boychuk that would make him the highest paid player on the team, with an average annual value in the $6 million range.

Make it rain, Garth! Make it fucking Rain!

As soon as Leddy inked his deal almost everyone agreed: dont stop there. Extend Johnny Rocket and roll with him Leddy and Hamonic as your top defensemen. Looked like Garth Snow was thinking the same thing. Its straight up BIZARRE watching Garth Snow operate now. Its like he’s a totally different person. Its like the botched Vanek deal and the 15 year Dipietro deal were done by someone else. I mean even as a guy who didnt watch hockey, everyone still knew how bad Snow was. And within the past couple years its like a lightbulb just went on. It just finally clicked and he started making smart moves. Landed quality young talent, found a goaltender, now locking up his veteran defensemen. Maybe its the impending move to Brooklyn or the new ownership but whatever it is thats motivating Garth and helping him make these decisions, I’m all for it.

I’ll be perfectly honest as a guy who has pretty much always had shitty GMs and piss poor management, its pretty fuckin weird to see a GM wheeling and dealing being smart about shit. Makes me nervous. Like I’m about to get cancer or something so the universe can even itself back out again.
