I Was Once Told I Didn't Have The Body To Be A Model

As our own Jerry Thornton reported on earlier today, the now world-famous super model Gigi Hadid said in a recent interview with i-D Magazine,

“I was coming out of high school, I still had my volleyball body.. It was a body that I loved. I knew how hard I worked to have those muscles, to be curved in those places – I kind of miss it now. At the time, people were hard on me and tried to say that I didn’t have a runway body.”

Well Gigi, you're not alone. I, too, was once told I didn't have the body to be a model.

I was coming out of high school, I still had my Student Government Secretary body. It was a body that I loved. I knew how hard I worked to have those weird curves, to be jello in those places – I still have it now. At the time, people were hard on me and Mark T. who sat behind me in low-level Spanish tried to say that I didn’t have a *runway body (*shot at finding a homecoming date). But that didn't stop me from buying magazines & pasting my face over thousands of real model's bodies during all my free time on the weekends (*and sending those collages to the boys I wanted to dance with at homecoming).

And in the end? Guess what. It all worked out. I noticed that we've even done some similar photo shoots. In fact, I think it's well within bounds to say we're pretty much the same person. If you ever want to hang out & become best friends please let me know.

In closing, you can check out the full interview she did HERE

Some things I learned in the article - Hadid loves hanging out on her farm somewhere outside NYC, working on puzzles, cooking for friends & family, painting, creating art from resin, and working with UNICEF. Am sure she'd be impressed with my watercolors & Chef Boyardee collection.
