USA TodayWith a provocative pose, Paulina Gretzky will be the cover girl in the upcoming issue of Golf Digest. That doesn’t sit well with some LPGA tour stars. Gretzky isn’t a professional golfer but is engaged to one – PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson. Gretzky, the daughter of hockey icon Wayne Gretzky and former actress Janet Jones Gretzky, demonstrates six golf-improvement exercises for the issue and talks about her connections in the sports world… “That’s just been the way it is for over 20, 30 years,” world No. 1 Inbee Park told reporters on Thursday after her round in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. “We are trying to get closer to the guys (in popularity), but obviously we are never going to get there. That’s for sure. The LPGA is getting better and better.” Stacy Lewis, the top-ranked American at No. 3 in the world, was asked by a New York Times reporter what she thought of the choice. “It’s frustrating for female golfers,” Lewis told reporters. “It’s the state of where we’ve always been. We don’t get the respect for being the golfers we are. Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines, but at the same time you like to see a little respect for the women’s game.”

The fact Inbee Park looks like this and Stacy Lewis looks like this pretty much puts a ribbon on the whole situation here.  Look, it’s a damn shame that God didn’t see fit to give these ladies what He gave Paulina Gretzky, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.  I’d like to be the No. 1 golfer on the men’s tour, but God in His infinite wisdom wanted me to be a brilliant writer/ wildly entertaining TV & radio personality instead.  Guess what?  I sucked it up and accepted it.  It’s all part of being an adult.  Stacy said it herself: Sex sells.  And you’re not sexy.  Magazine covers aren’t some right.  They’re not participation trophies you get just because you’re a good lady golfer.  They’re the domain of the hot and sexy.  People buy them because they want to bang whomever is on the cover.  Golf Digest isn’t going to keep the lights on and the shareholders happy by putting your big, spuckie ass on the cover.   Deal with it.  Accept it and move on.  Hell, I’d like to be on Muscle & Fitness, but I can do the mental math and understand what’s keeping me off is my lack of muscle and fitness.  You don’t hear be whining about it.  So get over yourself.  Make peace with who you are.  Or hit the gym and stay there until you make yourself look like Paulina Gretzky.  You, Golf Digest and your precious LPGA no one cares about will be better off for it.  @JerryThornton1
