Sam Raimi Is Being Eyed To Take Over The Doctor Strange Sequel And That RULES

(Variety) "Sam Raimi, who helped launch the modern superhero movie with 2002’s “Spider-Man,” is in talks to direct “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” for Marvel Studios, Variety has learned.

Raimi replaces original director Scott Derrickson, who Variety reported on Jan. 9 had officially departed the project due to creative differences. Derrickson will remain as an executive producer. Raimi, meanwhile, will need to get up to speed before the film’s scheduled production start date in May."

Like I mentioned in the blog on Derrickson leaving, I still think the situation is kind of a bummer. It makes me think that his vision was something dark and more horrifying, which is an interesting and at least different direction for the Marvel franchise to go, and that the Mouse had a big problem with that. That said, I think Raimi has the potential to be a great replacement. Like Derrickson, Raimi's roots are in horror. The 'Evil Dead' franchise is maybe the best cult horror movie ever, which is no small compliment. In case you live under a rock, he also helped legitimize comic book movies as viable Hollywood product with the original Spider-Man movies. He has an excellent grasp (AS A DIRECTOR*) on both genres this movie is supposed to blend, which makes him a great fit. Now cast my good boy Bruce Campbell in this movie and I'll be happy.
