Jay Z Told Joba Chamberlain To Go Get Him a Baseball Before an AJ Burnett Playoff Start in '09 - He Wanted to Be The Last Person To Touch it Before AJ Took the Mound

Something I've learned over the years is how impactful Jay Z was to the 2009 Yankees World Series Championship team. Yes we knew he wrote and sang their anthem 'Empire State of Mind' and that he threw that awesome party in the middle of the summer that brought the team together. Now after our Short Porch interview with Joba Chamberlain this week we learned that really he was around this team 24/7. He pretty much was the 26th man.

Before a playoff game during that year in which AJ Burnett was starting in, Jay Z called over Joba to ask him a favor. He asked to go get him a ball. Jay Z wanted to make sure he was the last person to touch that ball before Burnett did on the mound at Yankee Stadium. I tell ya what. When Jay Z tells you to do something, you don't ask questions, you just do it. He's one of the most powerful men in America. He can do whatever the fuck he wants. If Jay wants to hang around the 2020 team this year I'm not going to be the one who says no.

Full episode of The Short Porch is here below. Awesome 50 minute interview that covers Joba's sudden rise in New York, playing with Jeter, the 2009 team, the trampoline accident, the constant back forth from being a starter and reliever, his rivalry with Youkilis, singing in musicals, and so much more. If you're a Yankees fan you will love this episode.
