A Look Back at Derek Dooley's Greatest Quotes

Former Tennessee head coach and most recently Missouri offensive coordinator Derek Dooley is the newest member of Joe Judge's New York Giants staff.

While he didn't have the best record at Tennessee, it's hard to not miss the entertainment he brought every time he was in front of a microphone. Everybody thinks of Mike Leach and his antics with the media, but Dooley had some all-timers.

Who could forget the Rommel metaphor?

"Right now we're like the Germans in World War II. Here come the boats. They're coming. You have the binoculars, and it's like, 'Oh, my God, the invasion is coming.' That's what they did. They were in the bunkers. It's coming. They call Rommel. They can't find Rommel. 'What do we do? I'm not doing anything until I get orders. Have you gotten Rommel yet?'"

What I wouldn't give top have been in the room to see the looks on everybody's faces when he pulled that one out.

And the craziest thing is that he comes off sort of stupid when he says the things he does, but many of the history allusions come from the fact that he has not only a bachelor's degree in government and foreign affairs, but a law degree from the University of Georgia. He's actually a pretty smart guy.

His story about his high school football coach turning in his resignation every season so the principal would say he wanted him to stay when Dooley knew he was about to be fired was also a great one. He's a good dude and I hope he gets another shot at being a head coach.

It's hard to find many coaches that can capture the hearts and minds of people quite like Dooley. I hope the New York media treats him well.
