Rangers Buy Out Brad Richards & He's Probably Just As Happy As Fans Are

Richards

No surprise here. Although Richards fared a little better, in the end this is just another Scott Gomez-type mistake that Slats was fortunate to be able to get out of. When Richards was inked for 9 years/$60 mil prior to the 2011-12 season, he was at the top of the FA class & expected to bolster the Blueshirts offense. Instead, after putting up nearly a point a game in TB & Dallas, all he did in NY was produce his worst three seasons. Now, the Rangers clear almost $7 mil off the books while Richards pockets $20 mil over the next 12 years and looks elsewhere to finish his career. This was the obvious first step for the Rangers to start signing some of their FA’s & potentially bring in some new blood to do what Brad Richards couldn’t. Will be an interesting next couple of months to see who stays, goes & whether Sather chases the next big name.
