Unbelievable Story: College Hoops Coach Gets Lost Driving Through A Snow Storm Between Games, Saves A Woman In Labor After Her Car Ended Up In A Ditch

[Source] - Saul’s GPS told him to turn on a road that didn’t seem quite right, but without being able to see anything, he had to rely on blind trust. He continued to inch along, too far from civilization to find a safe spot to stop. That was when he saw a car in the ditch.

In broken English, a young woman said, “I’m in labor.” They were on their way to the hospital when they got stuck in the ditch.

Saul was trying to figure out in his head how to reconfigure the seats so he could deliver a baby while staying on the line with 911. Eventually he could hear the police tell the dispatch they didn’t think they could make it. The storm was too bad and they couldn’t see any vehicles near the location Saul had described.

At just that moment, Saul caught a glimpse of a headlight in the distance. “Tell them to keep coming! I see them!”

Moments later, a snowplow, followed by a police car, followed by an ambulance came into view.

A little feel good Monday morning story for everyone. I guess feel good story at least. Saul Phillips, a former Division I coach at Ohio U and North Dakota State, who is now coaching D2 ball up in South Dakota ends up saving someone's life. This is just one of those you don't believe it actually happens and sounds like it's right after a shitty cable TV show.

Think about all the things that had to happen for this person to be saved. Saul Phillips had to decide to drive from game to game instead of riding the bus. He had to not pull over before the snow storm got even worse. He had to blindly trust his GPS instead of doing the standard thing of 'well, I'm pretty sure I can figure it out' that we all do. Then he still had to be a human being and stop instead of just assuming a tow truck was coming or it wasn't a problem.

It's crazy shit like this that always makes me believe in some sort of higher power or some shit to make it all happen. This is just luck all combined into a feel good story, sometimes we just need that shit. Feel good stories like this don't always make the news because everything is so goddam negative. I've even tried to not be as negative (unless we're talking about UNC/Duke/Louisville/Tennessee, because fuck them). Try to put a little extra pep in my step when I actually have to get out of my recliner and walk somewhere.

PS: I don't know what book offers what right now, but if your book has a D2 future, go ahead and toss it all on Northern State. Feel like Saul Phillips is due for a March run now.
