Kyrie Irving Hates The Brooklyn Nets

That was tonight. This was from last season:

I defended Kyrie a lot when he was a Celtic. Because I genuinely thought he was going to re-sign. He very much did not re-sign. It worked out for the Celtics. The Nets got Kyrie and Kevin Durant based on how well they played last year after a preposterously long rebuild. Everyone was high on the Nets core, coaching staff, front office. Those were the deciding factors that ultimately brought KD and Kyrie to that borough of New York as opposed to Manhattan. Now, two games after returning from a shoulder injury, Kyrie is bitching about the very players that rebuilt the Nets.

Is it the biggest complaint of all time? Hardly. But that’s kind of the point with Kyrie that I wasn’t able to see last year. When it’s going good, he’s pulling his jersey at halfcourt after hitting a game-winning three against an elite team saying this is his house and that he can’t wait to have his number hanging in the rafters. When it’s not going well, you get this. He admitted last January he’s not a leader. No shit, huh. It was known heading into this season that KD wasn’t going to play. I don’t know if Kyrie thought he was going to leave a better situation in Boston to play with a worse team for a year and things would look better on the court, mostly because no one ever knows what the fuck is going on within the depths of Kyrie’s brain. Kyrie doesn’t know what’s going on in there half the time. But while quotes like this individually can be glossed over and ignored, it’s more of a death by thousand paper cuts type of deal. It’s like a nagging girlfriend. She keeps lobbing small bombs one after one and you ignore them and ignore them until one day you have a massive fight where she’s bringing up unrelated shit from months ago that could have been completely avoided if you nipped it in the bud from the get go.

The Nets gotta nip this in the bud sooner than later. Or don’t. Not my chair not my problem. Durant will be back next year, the Celtics never had that ace in the hole waiting for them. Maybe that will fix everything. Or Kyrie will retire and start a cult on a farm in the middle of Idaho and never use electronics ever again. Only time will tell.
