They're Finally (Probably) Releasing New Mutants (Most Likely)

'IS IT FINALLY HAPPENING!?

Honestly, I will believe this movie is hitting theaters when I am sitting down in my seat with my popcorn and the previews are rolling. Even then, I won't really believe it until the MARVEL logo pops up on the screen. Even then...

You might be thinking to yourself, wasn't this movie supposed to be released two years ago? Well, yes, yes it was! These were the original release dates for the movie:

  1. April 13, 2018 (DELAYED)
  2. February 22, 2019 (DELAYED)
  3. August 2, 2019 (DELAYED)
  4. April 3, 2020 (HAPPENING?)

The first teaser for this movie was actually released in 2017.

This is the final send-off for the X-Men franchise under the 21st Century Fox banner, before the property shifts on over to Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios (also known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

I think the trailer looks fine. There's a clear horror vibe to it and director Josh Boone even told IGN that he pulled some inspiration from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors'. A nice part of the move for Disney is that it seems as though they pulled back on the reshot and reworked footage, meaning Josh Boone will get to release his original vision:

Following the movie’s abrupt delay back in 2018 (before its original release date), there was a lot of talk that producer (and director of Dark Phoenix) Simon Kinberg was going to take the movie for massive reshoots to change its “tone”. Following the legendary flop of Dark Phoenix, it seems like that plan was abandoned and Boone has been allowed to complete his version of the movie, which is what we’ll see in theaters in April. It's always good to see a creator allowed to control his vision, so this is good news. Will the movie be good? Not sure! There are two trains of thought: it must be good enough for Disney to not cancel the movie altogether, but, also, there has to be a reason it took two years to release this movie.

What do you think? Will 'New Mutants' be any good?
