Former Fordham Coach Joe Moorhead Fired At Mississippi State

Just a few weeks ago, it appeared that Joe Moorhead was safe. An Ole Miss WR fake pissed on the field after a TD, Ole Miss kicker missed the XP, Matt Luke was fired and Joe Moorhead was safe.

Then there was a fight at one of State's bowl practices:

Mississippi State then lost the Music City Bowl and questions about Moorhead's program rose up again:

And now he's fired.

I'm a Moorhead guy. He was the coach at Fordham when I was at Fordham. He was the OC at UConn when I went to every single home game. His staff was littered with former Fordham & UConn coaches. I understand why they fired him, though. Sometimes a Yankee just doesn't work in the SEC.

The timing of it was bizarre. What really changed between the Egg Bowl and the Music City Bowl? Mississippi State now lost out on the coaching carousel. Who are they going to get? Would've been a top 3/5 job this offseason, but now they are at the bottom of the barrel. Losing to Louisville in the Music City Bowl stinks, but is it a fireable offense? What about a punch on the practice field? That happens all the time.

Brandon Walker will have more on this later.
