You Have To Win Games To Make The Playoffs

Beltran

NEW YORK (AP)With a little help from the replay room, Carlos Beltran and the banged-up Yankees did just enough to hold off Boston. Beltran hit a two-run homer, Ivan Nova rebounded from a rough outing, and New York beat the Red Sox 3-2 Sunday night with the aid of another disputed video review that led to the ejection of Boston manager John Farrell. Ichiro Suzuki robbed David Ortiz of extra bases in the eighth inning, crashing into the outfield fence for a spectacular catch, and New York took three of four in the first series of the season between the longtime rivals. Beltran had three hits and was pressed into his first career appearance at first base when Francisco Cervelli was injured. “We have to do what it takes,” Beltran said. “I hope I don’t have to do it again.”

I wasn’t about to get into a Twitter battle with a bunch of Sox fans last night so let’s just get this out of the way, you have to win games to make the playoffs. That’s the way they designed baseball. So yes, we’re going to celebrate every win, whether its April or September. Everyone who’s a Yankee fan knows that this team is old and injury prone. And where that isn’t the case, we have rookies starting where you’d rather have a proven veteran. When you understand this, you’re gonna appreciate every win. You only get 162 chances and this team is showing signs that they can find a way to win enough to play October baseball. I really hate Boston sports fans.

Aside from injuries hitting the Yankees pretty hard over the last 48 hours, this was a decent weekend of guys stepping up and filling roles that they maybe haven’t in the past. Lot of guys proving they were worth the boatload of money that was given to them this offseason. But at the end of the day, we won a division series against a team that will be a contender all year. If we keep doing that, this team is going to go places.

PS: Hey KFC, Beltran looks good in pinstripes!!
