The Bruins Are Reportedly Interested In Signing Ilya Kovalchuk (ft. Rear Admiral)

After his clearing unconditional waivers (contract terminated by the LA Kings), Ilya Kovalchuk is now an unrestricted free agent and free to sign with any team he may please. Per Igor Eronko, the Bruins are interested (what year is it?), as he's willing to go to a contender for a minimum salary.

This was literally my reaction to the initial tweet, then Rear Admiral and I hopped in the booth and recorded a podcast to talk about his potential on the Bruins.

It'd be a low risk, high reward. Sign him for cheap for one year, see if he can develop chemistry with Jake DeBrusk and David Krejci on the 2nd line. He has an unbelievable shot, but he is 36 now. The Bruins would not have to give up any assets to get him, whereas if they went out to acquire someone they would obviously have to give something up. It almost makes too much sense which worries me. The Bruins have a 9 point lead as they sit in 1st in the Atlantic division, it's a safe time to try and improve this team. If he doesn't work out, Don Sweeney will have time to try and add to this team before the trade deadline. Let's see if he still has it and can help this team. Rear Admiral and I get into all of this and more on the show.
