Does This Look Like The Face Of A Man Arrested For Smoking Crack?

(Sun) — A man with a tribal tattoo covering nearly all of his face was arrested Monday after an officer saw him lighting a crack pipe at a Boca Raton gas station, city police say. Keith Diaferia’s tattoo earned him a spot on the Boca Raton Police Department’s Facebook page, with the caption declaring his photo the “Mugshot of the Day.” The 54-year-old Boynton Beach man attracted an officer’s attention after getting out of his truck and into a BMW at the BP gas station on Glades Road. Suspecting drug use, the officer pulled up next to the BMW in an unmarked vehicle and peeked inside, according to Diaferia’s arrest report. After seeing Diaferia put a clear pipe in his mouth and light it, he walked up to the car. Diaferia tried to hide the pipe. The officer saw a bag of syringes in the lap of the driver, later identified as Jessica Supel, 32, of West Palm Beach. Inside her bag were seven needles, five bags of heroin, a crack cocaine rock, a pipe and pills, the report says.

Hmmmm. I never bash police officers. They have an incredibly difficult job. But if any case ever deserved an Internal Affairs investigation it was this one. Clear-cut case of stereotyping. I mean where’s the evidence that would allow the cop to “suspect drug use”? Because of the way Keith Diaferia looks? Does Officer Pigeonhole arrest everyone based on the eye test? Does he go around arresting every Asian with a set of car keys for reckless driving? Does he whip out his Billy Bat and yell “Stop resisting!” every time he sees a black guy in Boca Raton? Where does it end? If you arrest just one freak with a tattoo covering his face because you think he might be a crack smoker then Lord knows what else you’re capable of.
