As The World Burns: Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran Implicated As Playing Key Roles In The Astros Cheating Scandal

The Athletic

Major League Baseball’s investigation into the Astros and sign stealing is virtually certain to include interviews with three current managers — the Astros’ AJ Hinch, the Red Sox’s Alex Cora and the Mets’ Carlos Beltrán. Hinch was the Astros’ manager in 2017, and sources said both Cora and Beltrán played a key role in devising the sign-stealing system the team used that season. The Astros stole signs electronically, according to pitcher Mike Fiers and three other sources inside the organization at the time, violating major league rules. The Athletic reported the news of the Astros’ rule-breaking on Tuesday.

Well isn't that a beautiful thing to wake up to in the morning? It's been fun as a Yankees fan sitting back these last few days as the world burns in the background. Last night the Athletic dropped another bomb on this scandal with more information claiming Alex Cora, the '17 Astros bench coach, and Carlos Beltran, a player for the '17 Astros, were key pieces in the cheating scandal. We actually suspected this would happen at the beginning of today's Short Porch. The two fan bases currently involved with those men, the Red Sox and Mets, have handled the news in their own way.

Mets fans are ecstatic. Well at least Clem and KFC are. They think this shows Beltran can think outside of the box and do anything it takes to win. I just think it's hilarious that a guy who is so wildly respected by everyone in baseball has spent one week with the Mets and is already implicated in one of the biggest cheating scandals in baseball history. Guy came out and admittedly denied any wrong doing when the story broke. Now he has his own article implicating him in the scandal. Yikes.

Then we have Red Sox fans. Most of which I suspect will be reading this blog. Hey guys! Here's what Jared mustered up this morning as his spin zone. I'm sure there will be a blog following this one where he says MY MANAGER 1,000 times and says the Yankees did steroids while pointing out I'm losing my hair. All very original.

Innocent man eh? The second he saw the cheating he left claiming innocence? Orrrrrrrrr the second the Astros won the World Series after cheating their way to a title Cora capitalized on that momentum and took a managerial job he's been after for years? I'll stick with the latter here. Cora was the bench coach for the 2017 Houston Astros. That guy probably knew EVERYTHING that was going on. He took that shit to Boston, used it against Houston in the '18 ALCS and got himself a World Series championship. He saw a team that already used Apple Watches to steal signs and thought he could help them out a bit in that department. Maybe we should look into some Red Sox 2018 film and see if there were any garbage can banging noises? Hmmm. Did Jared know about this the whole time and that's why he's not going all in on Houston's cheating? Makes ya think.

This is unrelated to Cora and Beltran, but I woke up this morning and laughed out loud watching this.
