Football and Brady Bunch Legend Deacon Jones Dead at 74

It’s with a heavy heart that the world says goodbye to legendary Rams defensive lineman Deacon Jones, dead too soon at the age of 74.  It’s hard to overstate his influence on the game of football.  He invented the term “Sack” and would probably still hold the career record if the NFL didn’t wait til 1982 to start keeping it as an official stat.  His highlight film looks like a genetically-mutated superman got loose at a kids football camp.  On NFL Network’s Top 100 players list, he was selected the 15th best player ever, and was the 3rd highest ranked D-lineman behind only Reggie White and Mean Joe Greene.  And he once famously described what happens when you give a man… or woman… a slap upside the head.  But Deacon’s greatest accomplishment was teaching Peter Brady the valuable life lesson that it’s OK for a football player to be in Glee Club.  “If singing was sissy stuff, we’d be missing a lot of good men in sports.”  Truer words have never been spoken.  Godspeed, “Secretary of Defense.”  Even if they tried to keep you out of heaven, no one would be able to block you.  @JerryThornton1
