Earl Campbell Key To Fixing Texas Football? Get A Black QB

I’d probably be categorized as a Sam Ehlinger hater. I wouldn’t say that about myself, but I understand where others are coming from when they say that. I just feel he’s a bit overrated and Texas’ performance so far this season has proved why I thought that.

However, I do recognize that Ehlinger is probably the best QB that the Longhorns have had since Colt McCoy. I don’t think Ehlinger is the Longhorns issue at the current moment. If they had a better defense and offensive weapons, the Longhorns may be undefeated at the moment.

Texas football legend Earl Campbell, however, is blaming Ehlinger a bit. His solution to bringing the Longhorns “back” is to shy away from the white QBs:

The NFL Hall of Famer spoke with the Austin American-Statesman this week when he made the claim ... saying, "All these schools that are winning, even in the pros, have black quarterbacks."

Campbell added, "When guys are not open, something can still happen."

Not sure if he knows this but Ehlinger is a hell of a dual threat QB. He has 21 rushing TDs in his career at Texas.

The Statesman reports Campbell cited successful QBs like Tua Tagovailoa (who's actually Polynesian), Vince Young, Jalen Hurts, Deshaun Watson and J.T. Barrettto back up his claim.

"Until the University of Texas realizes -- and nothing against Ehlinger, you got to have a talented, black quarterback."

I respect wild takes, but when you say them, you’ve gotta back it up with something! Citing Tua? He’s Polynesian!

At this point in Texas football, I’m certain it doesn’t matter what the race of the QB is. The guy behind the center could be green and they’d still be losing games they aren’t supposed to.

P.s. Gotta love Earl saying “nothing against Sam” in the middle of this. Yeah, nothing against ya Ehlinger, you’re just white
