Did You Want Another The Grudge Movie? Well, They Made One Anyway...

.A horror remake that comes out in January? Oh no…

“Hey let’s remake ‘The Grudge’ but this time it’s the guy in the shower.”

This movie was supposed to be the fourth release in the original (American version) franchise, but it ended up being what we are getting now: a reboot…

In 2011, a sequel was announced, with a release date for 2013 or 2014. By March 2014, it was officially announced that a reboot of the franchise was in the works, with Buhler set to write the script. By July 2017, The Eyes of My Mother filmmaker Nicolas Pesce was hired for rewrites, based on Buhler’s script, and to direct the film. Principal photography on the film began in May 7, 2018, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and finished on June 23, 2018.

The trailer looks creepy… I guess? It also looks like a movie that will be only jump-scares from start to finish. On top of that, they’re rebooting a franchise that released three pretty weak movies.

The original ‘The Grudge’ (2004) had some scares, especially depending on your age when it was released, but it wasn’t a very good movie and its sequels were pretty weak as well. Apparently the original Japanese version, ‘Ju-on: The Grudge’, is decent… but there’s a trend here: this franchise is just okay at best.

Even with a solid cast, I see no way in which this movie is even somewhat decent.

Fantastic that we have received a reboot!
