Does This Look Like The Face Of A New Hampshire Man Arrested For Shoplifting Who Claims He Was Confused Because The Name of the Store Was "Finders Keepers"?

DERRY, N.H.A Derry man who told News 9 earlier this month that he took items from a store because he was confused by its name has been charged with theft. Police said he was shown on surveillance video taking items from the porch of the Finders Keepers thrift shop. A child was also shown on the video. In an interview earlier this month with News 9, Pabon said he thought the sign “Finders Keepers” meant he could take items for free.”I just grabbed one. I thought it was there for the taking,” he said. “The sign did say ‘Finders Keepers.’ So I took that DVD player, took it home. A couple of weeks later, the stuff is still there on the porch, so I’m thinking to myself, ‘Finders Keepers. They probably just put stuff out there for people to take.'”

I got to be honest. I think this is a valid excuse. Now I’m not saying he really believed that he could just steal this shit, but I think he thought he found a loophole. It’s like a pyramid scheme or when you think you’ve invented a risk free gambling system. In his head he’s telling himself that the worst thing that can happen is he gets caught and then when he’s about to go to jail he pulls out his Ace in the hole with the “Ohhh…I thought this shit was Finders Keepers. My bad bro.” Boom acquitted. And frankly I agree with him.  I feel like when you say Finders Keepers that trumps all.  Kind of like calling Shotgun.  One of those unwritten rules that is more unbreakable than real rules for some reason.
