BREAKING MOOS: Premier Lacrosse League Expands, Pardon My Take to Choose New Club Name

On today’s Pardon My Take, Premier Lacrosse League co-founder and player Paul Rabil joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter with some Breaking Moos:

The PLL is expanding to a seventh club, effective in the 2020 season. The league is coming off its inaugural season, which saw the Whipsnakes win the championship.

Mr. Commenter raised a valid question: How will the league schedule work with an odd number of teams? Rabil had an immediate answer.

“Natural byes,” the Johns Hopkins alum said. “The natural expansion would have been by two teams, given that we are tour-based. So, you would have had doubleheaders on a Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday. But now we have natural byes weaved into our 2020 schedule.”

How will the seventh club be composed? Rabil confirmed that the six clubs already in place have the ability to protect 10 of their 24 players. If players don’t get protected, they go into the expansion draft pool.

So, that’s part one of the Breaking Moos, and I’m sure there are AWL’s and lacrosse fans out there wanting more information about this future franchise. Lucky enough, Pardon My Take will have a central role in the future of this new club:

Paul Rabil: We are shopping the name of the seventh lacrosse club with the two of you and Hank.

Mr. Cat: We are deciding the name? I don’t think you’re ready for that.

Paul Rabil: Caveat here. If the name gets decided, you guys will also be owners of stock options in the Premier Lacrosse League.

That’s right. Pardon My Take is on its way to grasping ownership to yet another professional sports team (see: Breakers, New Zealand). Now, the club name selection process won’t be revealed until Friday’s show, but I can confirm that some of the potential options proposed by Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter are fantastic.
