The Sack Tap Is The Most Universal "Guys Being Dudes" Move Ever Invented
It’s so simple. It’s so pure. There’s just nothing that will ever bring the boys together better than a perfectly executed sack tap. And it’s one of those things that will stand the test of time. Legend has it that the first documented sack tap went down right before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Some of the fellas were having some second thoughts about the whole thing, then John Adams hit Thomas Lynch Jr. with a little ball tap and said “quit being a little bitch”, everybody shared a hearty laugh and then they all went on to sign the Declaration and America was born. Right then and there, a simple ball tap led to the creation of the greatest nation on the planet.
And all these years later, the sack tap remains a valued and respected measuring device for friendship. Because there are only a select amount of people on this earth who you can sack tap and who you can get sack tapped by. For most folks out there, you’re probably not going to smack your coworker in the nuts as a joke. Greg is a nice enough guy and you would consider yourselves to be work friends, but you’re not at the point yet where you can ball tap the guy and everybody will just laugh it off. You’re not going to ball tap your mailman. You’re not going to ball tap the guy who delivers your Chinese food every Sunday night, no matter if you think he’s an essential person in your life or not. I would say that on average, an American male has about 7 or 8 guys whose nuts he can smack and everybody involved will think it is hilarious. I don’t necessarily have the data to back that up but it sounds right to me. Some will obviously have more and others will have less. But if you sit down and think about it right now, pretty much anybody who you’d put in your MySpace top friends are the guys who could hit you with a cup check and you’d just chalk it up to guys being dudes. So credit to John Adams for inventing the move and props go out to Dougie Hamilton for carrying the torch. I know that a lot has been said about Dougie over the years as “not being one of the boys”, but it looks like he’s fitting in perfectly down in Carolina.
