Chipper Jones Ceremonial First Pitch Boycotted By Braves Players After Chipper Predicted The Dodgers Would Win In 4 Games

LOS ANGELES – Braves legend Chipper Jones threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers in Atlanta. Not to a player or coach, though. The Braves’ mascot was on the receiving end. After the game, a 6-1 Braves loss, Jones, who is one of the best Twitter follows in baseball, posted this sarcastic comment: 

He then followed with another tweet: “Nor will it EVER happen again!” Evidently, Braves players were not happy Jones had gone on the radio earlier in the day with the team’s flagship station, 680 The Fan, and predicted the Dodgers would win the NLDS in four games. So no player volunteered to catch the pitch. Former manager Bobby Cox threw out the ceremonial Game 2 first pitch to Tim Hudson. The Braves won that game, 4-3. The Braves were trying Monday night to force a Game 5 on Tuesday back in Atlanta.

Ahhh the Braves. Can’t even follow their own Unwritten Rules of Baseball. So worried with sportsmanship and respect and reverence they can’t even get along with each other anymore. Too much worrying about how fast people are running around the bases or how long they look at a home run or who’s gonna catch a ceremonial first pitch, not enough worrying about 78 year old Juan Uribe going big fly right in their fucking faces to knock them out of the postseason. The good news is now there’s plenty of time for Brian McCann and the rest of the Braves to talk all about other players and monitor their behavior, making sure everyone appreciates them appropriately. Whether inside the organization or out.

PS – For the record I would absolutely snub Chipper Jones too if he did that to my team. Guy is one of the smuggest assholes in the world. Its just so perfect that the holier than thou Braves now have to be pissed at one of their own.
