Leave it to Bill Romanowski to Call Vontaze Burfict's Suspension 'Bulls**t'

Vontaze Burfict’s hit that got him suspended for the year:

Bill Romanowski’s reaction:

“You’re in the heat of battle. Your mindset is kill or be killed. Because the offensive linemen are still coming at you. You’re in war. You’re supposed to be able to be violent sometimes and other times you’re supposed to just be able to take your foot off the gas like that. That is hard, my friend.

“I feel for this guy. Do I think he should be fined? Yes. Do I think he should be kicked outta the league? No. I think it is absolutely dead wrong. This guy has handled himself like a pro. And yes, he is a violent mother f’er and I love the way he plays the game of football.

“I think a fine, maybe a game because there’s previous stuff. Other people just get kicked out of the game. I’ve been kicked out of games for things like that, so I get it. But, for him to be suspended for the season, I think is bullshit.

“To me, he plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played. Did he take it too far? Yeah. And, he’s taken it too far quite a few times. I think my dealings with him, he’s nothing but a good guy. A guy who’s probably the smartest football mind in the room. He’s a true pro.”
– Bill Romanowski, to TMZ

Romanowski. Goddamned Bill Romanowski. BC Eagle. San Francisco 49er. Philadelphia Eagle. Denver Bronco. Oakland Raider. Four time Super Bowl champion. Two time Pro Bowler. Feral fucking maniac.

It’s only fitting that he’d be the guy coming out to defend Vontaze Burfict. These two are the same person, one football generation apart. When they get together – and reportedly they are friends – it must be liked old, trained assassin Bruce Willis eating at a diner with his younger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt self in “Looper.” Or old, trained assassin Will Smith meeting his younger, Will Smith self in that blatant “Looper” ripoff.

This make perfect sense. Of course Romanowski would defend Burfict. No one understands a bloodthirsty hunter like another bloodthirsty hunter. He not only was chosen the fifth dirtiest player in the history of professional sports, he has a career resume of violence that makes Burfict look like Tim Tebow. Including, but not limited to:

* Kicking Cardinals fullback Larry Centers in the head

* Breaking Panthers QB Kerry Collins jaw with a helmet-to-helmet hit in a preseason game

* Spitting in the face of 49ers receiver JJ Stokes

* Hitting Jets linebacker Bryan Cox in the nuts with a football

* Tearing teammate Marcus Williams’ helmet off in a practice, punching him in the eye socket, fracturing his orbital bone and ending his career, for which Williams later sued him

*Ripping Titans’ running back Eddie George’s helmet off

So hell yeah, I’d expect nothing less than Romanowski talking like Burfict is just a victim of circumstances in this, his 11th suspension of his career. And arguing that the league should’ve just fined him. Because the $4 million he’s already lost prior to this did such a good job of teaching him a lesson. And all that enabling has been so effective at reigning him in. Violent mother f’ers gotta stick up for violent mother f’ers.

If you watch just a few seconds of that interview, skip to about the 4:30 mark when he talks about his coaches screaming at his teammates calling them “pussies” and tell me he doesn’t sound exactly like Emilio Esteves describing his dad in “The Breakfast Club.”

“Andrew! You’ve got to be No. 1! I won’t tolerate any losers in this family!” Listening to him now, 15 or so years after he retired still being triggered like this? It makes me think there are a lot of Larry Lesters who got their buns taped together in Romanowski’s past.
