I Cannot Wait For Either Of The WW1 Movies That Are Coming Out

I say it all the time on LCB, there is far too many WW2 movies and not nearly enough good WW1 movies. I know it’s easier doing the former because the Axis was clearly/obviously evil and WW1 is a little more of a grey area, but still! It’s a massive fucking global conflict! Give it some more exposure in cinema! Well, my prayers were answered with ‘1917’ and ‘The King’s Man’. Let’s talk about the former. Sam Mendes is a great director (Jarhead is one of the best war movies ever made, in my opinion), and he has the best cinematographer in the game, Roger Deakins, as well. The cast has some British all-stars including these fellas:WW1-Graphic (1)Also George MacKay (Captain Fantastic) and Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen from GoT) look to be main players as well. CAN’T WAIT! Plus, this is going to be a faux-long take as well, sort of in the same style as ‘Birdman’ which is obviously an incredible movie. The second movie, ‘The King’s Man’ looks to be a super entertaining espionage thriller to cap off the Kingsman Trilogy. We actually interviewed the director, Matthew Vaughn, a few months ago and he told us that is was going to be unlike anything in the previous two movies in more than a few ways. ‘Kingsman’ was wildly entertaining and the sequel was maybe a little disappointing, but this seems to be a whole new type of espionage-action and I am super excited to see how it turns out.

By the way, if you’re a history guy like me, make sure to check out ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’, the WW1 documentary that Peter Jackson made. It’s on HBO Go for anyone interested.
