ICYMI, The City Boyz Won The East Last Night

Let’s get this out of the way first. They got destroyed by the Revs last night. They were missing Ring, Chanot, and Taty with suspensions, which forced them into a  lineup including GMS, Medina and Eric Miller. They went super offensive to make up for the lack of defensive power, and it simply didn’t work out. Mitrita had a lot of opportunities early, but the personnel just wasn’t there to maintain pace like a 4-2-3-1 formation needs. It’s a big time bend-don’t-break, counter-attacking formation  which requires better CDMs than Rocha and Medina. Whatever. The Revs first goal was a thing of beauty and the second was just a miscalculation by Sean Johnson as far as getting out of the net.

Not much anyone can do here. Anyway, Philly got killed by Columbus which secured City’s first place spot in the east as well as a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League. They get a much needed first round bye for the first round of the MLS playoffs, and (if the season ended today) would play either DC or the Red Bulls in the conference semis.
