Chief Of Police Fired Because He Couldn't Do 23 Pushups

CARSON CITY Thomas Navin, former chief of the Capitol Police Force, has filed a lawsuit alleging he was unjustly fired because he could not do the required pushups as part of a mandatory physical test. He was on the job for a year and is asking for $15,000 plus other damages against the state Department of Public Safety and some of its officers. The Capitol Police Force maintains security at the capitol, the governor’s mansion, the Supreme Court and other state buildings. The complaint, filed in District Court this week, says Navin took the physical examination when he was hired in March 2012. He completed the jumping, running and sit-up tests, but he could only do eight of 23 required pushups. He maintains he hurt his left shoulder during the exercise, a mishap certified as a worker’s compensation injury. Police force rules say officers must pass the physical test within a year of being hired. The lawsuit says he was ordered to take a second test in February, but his shoulder was still injured. The suit said he was denied a six-month extension to pass the physical test. Navin says he was “intimidated, belittled and humiliated” and that he was treated “with utter disregard.”

I know that video doesn’t have anything to do with police or pushups but it involves being awful at exercising and it makes me laugh, so I posted it.

Anyway, what do you think was going through Thomas Navin’s head here when he filed this lawsuit? I mean he’s basically asking for 15 grand to tell the world the most embarrassing about him. You’re a grown man who can only do 8 pushups bro? Eight?! And you have the balls to pull a Rodney Dangerfield and say you hurt your arm? Embarrassing. Anyone who can’t do at least 25 pushups is nowhere near a man and not somebody I’d feel comfortable protecting me on the force. Hell I’d call you a girl and say to go tryout for the cheerleading squad, but you’d be rooting against the team cuz you couldn’t handle the pushups after a TD and a field goal.
