Kevin Feige - THE GODFATHER OF MARVEL STUDIOS - Is Developing A New Star Wars Film For Disney!

Alright, first off, let’s just get this out of the way…

Cum

Sometimes I feel like a cheesy old musician playing the hits with that picture, but god damn, if it doesn’t still make me laugh. Onto the blog, now!

This is MASSIVE, MASSIVE, MASSIVE – and completely unexpected – news in the nerd world.

Kevin Feige is quite literally the brain above all brains at Marvel Studios, and responsible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe we know and love today more than basically anybody but Stan Lee himself. He had the BALLS to give Jon Favreau an Iron Man movie when he wasn’t such a mainstream hero yet, allowing the then-considered “risky” Robert Downey Jr in the role, and kicking off the first ever interconnected superhero universe of its kind in cinema…AND THEN KEEPING THAT GOING WITH AWESOME SUPERHERO MOVIE AFTER AWESOME SUPERHERO MOVIE FOR TEN FUCKING YEARS, CULMINATING IN THE GREATEST PAYOFF THESE EYES HAVE EVER SEEN IN ‘AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR’ & ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’!

He’s legitimately batting like .948 career, because over all else, he’s got his finger on the pulse of the fanbase, and almost always delivers on what they want. Oh yeah, and all signs point to this just being the start for all that shit…

Anyway, THAT guy, Kevin Feige, is developing a brand new STAR WARS film for Disney (alongside LucasFilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, of course). To say I was STUNNED when I read this news would be an understatement. Clem and I always joke that we want Kevin Feige to somehow buy the DCEU Shane McMahon/WCW style, so he could fix that and give us the Justice League we’ve always dreamed of, but I don’t think either of us ever actually considered the possibility that Feige would EVER take on any massive franchise outside of Marvel Studios. I mean – how could he? He’s making like eight movies and twelve television shows in the next year, and he’s raking in stacks by the billion. With a B. What would possibly draw him away from that?!

Oh! Wait a minute! I just thought of it!

STAR WARS MOTHAFUCKAS! STAR WARS! WHO DOESN’T WANNA DO A STAR WARS?!

Alan Horn’s quote:

“Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together”

…is suuuuuuuper interesting to me. When you bring in Kevin Feige – and god knows how much he’s getting paid for this gig, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were literally more than any producer ever – and talk about “pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling”, people (including myself) are going to start speculating about how an interconnected Star Wars universe is going to work.

It feels like the ‘Star Wars’ slate is kinda jam-packed already, though, does it not?! ‘The Mandalorian’ hits Disney+ in November, they’ll be closing out the Skywalker Saga with Episode IX in December, and then, in a few years, the Game of Thrones dudes will kick off their trilogy while Diego Luna’s ‘Cassian Andor’ Disney+ series begins production. At some point, a Rian Johnson trilogy is happening, a second ‘Madalorian’ season is already on the way, and the highly anticipated ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series starring Ewan McGregor starts filming next year! A Darth Maul Disney+ series is even being thrown around the rumor mill right now!

So where the hell does Feige fit in, what kinda movie is he developing, and how could he turn that movie into a universe full of movies?!

Maybe I’m jumping the gun on all of this, and shouldn’t assume this partnership is what I think it is. That being said…I’m just REEEALLY hoping it is, because that would be so goddamn cool! This is the MEGA POWERS COLLIDING! Who do you think he’ll bring in?! We getting Tom Holland as a Jedi Knight running from Order 66?! Will Brie Larson fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a Jedi in a POST-Episode IX timeline?! Could this be the beginning of Feige’s live-action ‘Clone Wars’ universe?!

I CANNOT WAIT to find out more! Consider me thrilled.
