Is Emo Gay? An Investigative Response To Aaron Calvin Of The Des Moines Register

For those of you who don’t know, Keith wrote a fantastic blog late last night titled, Some Absolute Toad From The Des Moines Register Digs Up Tweets From Carson King (The Iowa State Kid Who Raised $1 Million+ For The Children’s Hospital) And Plans To Expose Him – Internet Beats Him To The Punch With His Own Tweets Of Homophobia and N-Words. It’s a must read not just for Stoolies, but for anyone who’s interested in the phenomenon of ‘cancel culture’ and the hypocrisy that goes along with it. Long story short, the guy tried to expose someone for doing a good deed and ended up getting exposed himself. The actual tweets are horrific and you can read them in their entirety in the original blog. Here are a few for reference.

You get the idea. To be honest, as bad as they were, none of them were THAT shocking. People say fucked up shit online all the time, so I’m essentially numb to that kind of rhetoric. There was, however, one tweet that stuck with me. It was a response to one of his tweets about a getting hit on by ‘strange gay men’…

At first I was taken aback. Emo ‘being gay’ is something I’d never thought of before. (Technically he said “for the gays” but it’s the same thing.) But after spending a solid thirty seconds thinking about it, I can’t say I disagree. Based off stereotypes alone, Emo is about as gay as it gets. It’s a bunch of highly emotional, highly stylized, smooth bodied boys singing about their misplaced internal hatred toward their parents. They feel like the world doesn’t understand them, but that’s because they don’t understand themselves yet. They invented skinny jeans. They wear makeup. They have tongue rings. They post stuff like this on MySpace to get attention.

They check a lot of boxes. Which is all super hot, but definitely registers on the Kinsey Scale. I hate to say it, but as despicable of a human as Aaron Calvin is, he has a point. Emo is an inherently homoerotic form of expression. As far as everything else he said, I COMPLETELY disagree. Sorry, just calling it like I see it.
