With Season 14 Starting Tonight, Let's Argue About The Best 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Episodes

It’s Always Sunny is one of the staples of the majority of bloggers here and readers. We talk about episodes, lines, characters, etc all the time. That’s what happens when you have one of the greatest comedies of all time happening right this moment.

Hell, it’s one of the few shows where you can guarantee there will be at least one episode from a new season will be labeled an all-time great. So even though I ran something similar before last season, I have to run it back. That’s what It’s Always Sunny does.

So with episode 1 of season 14 starting tonight, let’s argue about our favorite episodes. This isn’t the best and it’s completely subjective, but hey, arguing about something where there really is no right or wrong is one of my favorite things in the world.

So with that in mind and season 14 starting, here is my updated 14 favorite episodes in order:

14. The Gang Desperately Tries To Win An Award
Just a wildly underrated episode especially when you think about the show as a whole. The show will never be awarded for an award while the basic shows consistently will. That’s what this is about – and then throw in some spitting and you have a KFC Radio special. The fact that the bar can’t get away from what it is at heart, just a great episode.

13. The Gang Reignites The Rivalry
Overlooked in this is it starts with Frank wearing skinny jeans. That alone is one of the more hilarious images as he waddles around but then you get into Dennis continuing to be a sociopath. The scene of Frank and Dennis destroying Art Sloan’s house with cutting the shower so you can only see his dong will always make me laugh. The flip cup tournament is such an afterthought as is the scene with them going up against the college kids with Dee of course sucking.

12. The Gang Goes To A Water Park
Probably not a popular pick here, but I thought it was unreal the first time I watched it. When you have Frank and Charlie together like this and Frank pretending to have AIDS, but the good kind combined with Dennis having a plan that doesn’t go exactly right, I’ll enjoy it.

11. The Gang Hits The Road
Just so many memorable lines and moments for me, I’m almost shocked I didn’t have this ranked higher. Listing North Virginia, South Virginia and Detroit as states. Charlie eating a pear for the first time but not taking the stickers off. Mac calling everyone Bozo for his new thing. Charlie and Dennis passing out in the back of the u-haul is a scene that makes me just howl in laughter every time. Awesome episode.

10. Reynolds vs Reynolds: Cereal Defense
Science is a liar sometimes. We also get another episode where Charlie tries to be a lawyer and Mac calling Arsistotle a bitch. One of the more underrated scenes in all of the series is the trial here. Just love everything about it plus the opening is gold where Frank has to listen to a cassette tape for directions.

9. The Gang Beats Boggs
You throw in drinking with some sports references and buddy you have my vote any day of the week. Now there are some obvious well-known parts here and you have the important factor of Dennis getting off the plane in North Dakota, which is where he apparently has sex to have his son.

8. The Gang Wrestles For the Troops
I will laugh 100 out of 100 times whenever Mac goes to wrestle Cricket but instead leaves after saying ‘I feel like you’re just going to throw sand in my face, so I’m uh just going to leave.’ So basic, so funny. Stomp, clamp everyone.

7. The Gang Goes on Family Fight
I actually think this may be the most underrated episode in the entire series. Charlie saying he’s not a cottage guy but he’s a huge cheese guy and asking what cottage the cheese is from just sums up his character perfectly. So many classic moments with the buzzer/Dennis, Dee passing out and Keegan Michael Key plays the role just so damn good.

6.Charlie Work
The premise of the episode being the scam that doesn’t go to plan is It’s Always Sunny as its best. Throw in Mac consistently looking for approval from Dennis while the episode ends with Dee getting screwed over is just a perfect full episode. Frank flushing his shoes and shirt down the toilet for anxiety is so ridiculous that I will always laugh.

5. The D.E.N.N.I.S. System
Dr. Mantis Toboggan with hundred dollar bills and magnum condoms is one of the funnier bits here, but low key I think soldier Ben is a star in this episode. Him just sitting in the car with the windows rolled up because Dee told him to will bring tears to my eyes.

4. World Series Defense
I dare you to not laugh when Dee reads Mac’s letter to Chase Utley. Again, you have Charlie pretending to be a lawyer with the show ending with him yelling about baseball and how outrageous MLB is – which, if you’re on Twitter, hits a bit close to home.

3. The Gang Solves The Bathroom Problem
The addition from last season that made me want to update this. Just a perfect episode for It’s Always Sunny. It took the serious debate of the bathroom issue, something both sides with strong opinions about, and made fun of it all. That’s what makes this show so goddamn good. Not to mention, instead of ending it with some happy ending and making everyone feel good, they ended it this way:

2. Flowers for Charlie
This is an answer that should always be higher on the list when people start listing episodes. The whole time you’re seeing Charlie be smarter while Frank gets upset only to find out it’s a placebo effect – which of course Charlie can’t pronounce. Just an all time episode.

1.Nightman Cometh
Might not be the best, but it’s a personal favorite for me. I remember watching this multiple times in college when it came out and it was on the DVR. That may play into it for me, but Mac going for gasps while Frank can’t get words right. Now, I’m up to here with everyone.
